Adopt a Seedling Initiative a Success | Business

From a Statement By the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation

Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play, funded by the New York State Department of Health, with the help of the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation, organized an adopt a seedling program with local businesses to  grow seedlings which were donated to community gardening sites.

Each participating business was given a seed starter kit planted with cherry tomato or parsley seeds   which they grew until the seedlings were ready to be transplanted. Participating businesses included Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation, Robert H. Jackson Center, Cooper’s Cyber Café & Deli, Ives Johnson Insurance Agency, Quick Solutions, MediaOne Group, and Phillips Lytle, LLP. Once the seedlings were mature, they were collected and delivered to community gardening sites to be transplanted.

The Joint Neighborhood Project, The Resource Center  Harris Street Senior Adult Day Hab, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., and the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown all received seedlings to use in their gardening projects.
“The seedling program was very well received by many local businesses and we anticipate doing this again in the future,” said Tiffani Conti, DJDC Special Projects Manager. “There is much discussion taking place within our community surrounding community gardens and going green. We felt this program would tie nicely into those initiatives.”
